B Bertie

ertie is a terrier type who arrived at Tailends on Saturday November 7th 2009. He had been brought from a dog pound in the northeast after being picked up by a dog warden as a stray. He was known to have been on the streets for some years – possibly as a “latch-key dog”. He was in a very neglected state – full of fleas and very thin. His back legs were very deformed which x-rays have now shown to be due to a previous accident when his pelvis was fractured. He also has some cruciate and spinal damage.

Bertie has now been castrated and a damaged dew claw was removed at the same time. He is a very tough little boy and is thrilled to have so much attention now. He just loves to cuddle up to you and fall asleep. Bertie has a cheeky little face with a very marked undershot jaw which exposes his teeth the whole time.

We are very grateful to Nina, Caroline, Elaine, Graham and Ronnie for all their help in rescuing this little boy and getting him to Tailends. He is very happy at the moment and can cope with reasonable walks but his mobility will deteriorate due to his previous injuries and he will need medication and treatment for this. We may consider hydrotherapy to improve his condition. Bertie has already gained weight since arriving and is improving every day.
